Shield Road began with a simple intention…….
To protect a rare pocket of native bushland in the eastern foothills of the Grampians. When we purchased the 80‑hectare property in 2022, it wasn’t with the idea of building campsites — it was with the desire to conserve. The land, with its sweeping views toward Redmans Bluff and Mt William, held something special: intact native vegetation, including a thriving patch of Xanthorrhoea, a diverse bird population and the quiet resilience of a beautiful landscape.
Over time, the vision grew. We’ve realised that the best way to protect this country is to share it — gently, respectfully, and with intention. Shield Road Wilderness Camp has been created as a premium, low‑impact bush retreat where visitors can experience the landscape as it truly is: raw, ancient, and deeply restorative.
Each of the four campsites is named for the species that define this place — Xanthorrhoea, Decussata, Yellow Box and Banksia — a living botanical collection that honours the ecological richness of the property. Guests don’t just stay here; they step into a story of regeneration, stewardship, and quiet connection.
Shield Road Wilderness Camp is not a resort. It is not a caravan park. It is a sanctuary — a place where the only agenda is to slow down, breathe in the scent of eucalypt, listen to the wind moving through the canopy, enjoy the birdsong and feel the presence of the Grampians rising in the distance.
This land is protected, cared for, and shared with purpose. And every guest who stays becomes part of that story. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing more details in the near future.
